24. jæʃ ‘hand’
Das Wort jæʃ ist nur an dieser Stelle belegt. Sowohl im Wörterbuch (M/K 178a), als auch in den Anmerkungen zum Text wird die Übersetzung ‚Hand‘ mit einem Fragezeichen versehen, denn wie man dort nachlesen kann (VNGy IV/2 129), wäre laut Liimolas Mitteilung auch ‚Fuß‘ möglich.
The word jæʃ occurs only in this passage. In the dictionary (M/K 178a) as well as in the comments on the text the translation ‚hand’ is given with a question mark, since as one can read there (VNGy IV/2 129), Liimola feels it could also mean ‚foot’.
56. mætər pyːt mætær-t oːs pal teːltaxt-eː-t
Sowohl die Bedeutung des Prädikats pal teːltaxt-eː-t, als auch der Sinn des Satzes sind nicht ganz klar. In der Übersetzung von VNKGy (Quelle) heißt die Stelle: némely holmik még fölhasználhatók (maradt még benn értékes holmi)‘. In den Anmerkungen dort ergibt sich aus den russischen Erklärungen die Bedeutung dt. ‚sich trennen‘, engl. ‚split up‘, die wir verwendet haben, und verstehen darunter am ehesten: ‚etwas lässt sich noch aufteilen‘, daher die freie Übersetzung: ‚ some things are still useful‘, ohne jedoch darüber im Klaren zu sein, welches Verb gemeint sein soll, weil die im Wörterbuch an verschiedenen Stellen angegebenen Verben bzw. Bedeutungen alle nicht zum Sinn passen.
The meaning of the predicate as well as of the entire sentence is not completely clear. In the original we read: némely holmik még fölhasználhatók (maradt még benn értékes holmi)‘. In the comments, the Russian explanations offer the meaning ‚to split/divide up’ which we have used and we understand it as most likely ‚something can still be divided up’, leading to the free translation ‚some things are still useful’. It is not clear which verb is being used here since the verbs given in different places in the dictionaries as well as their meanings do not fit this context.
