A hare was eating grass |
A hare was eating grass. Its tongue got split by the grass. It ran and says to the forest fire: Burn up the grass! I was eating grass, my tongue got split. The forest fire says: You know yourself (what to do), I'm not going. The hare went to the water rat. Come and put out the fire! it says. The water rat doesn't go to put out the fire. The water rat says: I won't go. It went to two boys. Boys, come and shoot the water rat! The water rat won't go to put out the fire. The boys say: You know yourself (what to do), we're not going. The hare went to two girls, it says: Come and break the two boys' arrows! They won't go to shoot the water rat, the water rat won't go to put out the fire. We won't go, she says, you know yourself (what to do). The hare says: I'll run to two mice. It ran. Run, it says, and gnaw through the girls' bark baskets! They won't go to the boys to break their arrows, the boys won't go to shoot the water rat, the water rat won't go to put out the fire. The mice gnawed through their bark baskets, the girls ran to break the boys' arrows, the boys ran to shoot the water rat, the water rat ran to put out the forest fire, the forest fire ran to burn up the grass. |
