The winged paster and the legged paster fell ill |
The winged paster and the legged paster began to waste away. They say to their wives: (when) the people come, then tell the people a linden coffin is to be made for us and is to be set up. They died. The people came. The people ask the two wives, what kind of coffin did they order to be made. They said, a larch coffin. Where did they order it to be placed? They ordered it to be buried three arshins deep in the earth. They buried them. The two (pasters) lie. At some point seven years had passed. When they (try to) open their coffins, they're buried in the earth. The winged paster was buried by dirt, he suffocated there. The winged paster held the dirt up, he says to the legged paster, he says, we've been put away by our wives for ever. Then he cried out three times and then the people noticed him, they dug and dug, (when) they got halfway to his grave, the winged paster recited an incantation: the girl born subsequently, the boy born subsequently, may they lie just as I lay entirely for a thousand days. |
