The Song of the Tuberous Elkbull
The Song of the Tuberous Elkbull
The tuberous elkbull says,
Mother, mother!
I had a dream this night,
[Shot by the winged paster]
You will be killed by an eagle wing feathered arrow shot by the winged paster.
Having seven calves, what else do I want?
Your seven calves will be of no help.
My seven calves
will mix the winged paster into a snowdrift,
they will mix him into a winddrift.
I run to my father, the High God.
Where I ran,
a pine land frequented by elk arises,
a forest land frequented by elk arises.
The winged paster, in the places where he wandered,
in the places where he set his shovel
he digs lakes with ruffe,
digs lakes with fish.
He overtakes me,
he chops through my four legs,
he chops through my four canine teeth.
