The good girl, the able girl
The good girl, the able girl.
Across two rivers, across three rivers
suitors come to me
[whose fame had reached my ears]
from a Lozva village whose fame had reached my ears.
On a four legged table
[began to sell my head]
the prince my father, the boyar my father began to sell my head.
Like a full-haired fox
I was sold.
The good girl, the able girl.
I am taken across two, three rivers
to the Lozva village.
I was turned towards the Lozva village.
In the village where I am to live out my days I settled,
Anna Titovna.
Was I (there) for a short time, or for a long time, how can I tell?
A good woman, I bore two sons.
I think, what can happen to me, the woman, now?
I raised two sons in my height,
I raised two soldiers in my height.
The good woman, what can become of me now?
For a time, I lived on and on.
When I notice
my flesh is being wrung,
when I notice
my blood is being filtered through a leaky sieve.
When I notice
because of a Lozva-shore whore
and because of a Lozva-shore strumpet
my flesh is being wrung,
My blood is being filtered.
They started to extinguish my spirit.
If the prince my father, if the boyar my father heard (my) words,
he would place me up to sit
(even if) he would not set me up to stand.
