God Pole
God pole.
A young spruce is cut down at the base, the branches are lopped off up to the tip, at the tip the branches are left, then it is set up as a (god) pole.
The (god) pole is fitted with the face of an idol.
This idol face is carved onto the bark of the spruce with a knife.
Then they set it up facing the rising sun, then they bow their heads to it.
The idol is called forth, the idol flies up, it flies up onto the tip of the (god) pole.
